An indulgent getaway for two, and for and those who do not like to compromise on luxury even in remote destinations.

What we love

  • The terraced hills around. While there is a dense forested patch to the right of the property, the stepped hills in front seem to float in the horizon with the peaks of Trishul, Chaukhamba and others, visible on clear days, in the background. Even though the house is in the mountains, it’s not in an isolated patch. The buzz of village life, sights and sounds of people going about their daily lives is all around, visible from the property.
  • The dolls’ house appearance of the place! The property is built more vertically than horizontally, and the little clusters that dot the hillock give it this look, along with the endless rows of yellow planters that zigzag their way up. The main central structure is the original house, built in the typical colonial summer home fashion complete with wooden floors and a sloping roof with the newer additions complementing this structure.
  • Split into two main categories, deluxe and suite, the rooms appeal to different tastes. While the suites are extravagant, one even has a sofa in the bathroom, the deluxe rooms are simpler but will charm those who prefer minimalism. The four-poster beds, colourful cushions and upholstery, and little evening notes left on the bedside during turn down service, create the perfect ambience and experience. Even the smallest of the rooms meant for solo travelers, are plush and pampering!
  • The property is putting together a museum that showcases graphic art in India. This will soon be open to guests. Do check it out during your visit if its opened!

What to know

  • The owner is a collector, and much of his personal collection here. This was his personal summer home in the nineties, until he decides to expand and open it to discerning guests. Walking through the maze-like corridors sprinkled with colonial and modern bric-a-brac is like strolling through an art gallery. Look out for the vintage scooter that’s framed and sitting on an enclosed podium!
  • Some delicious jams and marmalades are created here. Definitely try the banana rum spread with your toast. Also ask for the lip-smacking rhododendron jam, a local speciality!
  • The restaurant, and the trees growing through it! The dining area is surrounded with a mix of vintage Bollywood and colonial decor. The table mats that double as board games are an innovative addition, and perfect while waiting for your order. In the midst of this cosy clutter, two tall oak trees exit right through the roof and add a lovely touch of magic!
  • The suites are lavish and ideal for those looking for a romantic escapade. There is also one separate cottage that can house two families.
  • The hotel does not serve liquor. Guests may carry their own liquor. the resort will charge corkage of INR 200 per bottle.
  • All major area in the property are interconnected with flights of steps. People with little children should be cautious and people with walking difficulties may want to give this place a miss.

Bird Watching in Uttarakhand

This place is a paradise for bird watchers! Step just outside your cottage and you’ll see them or hear them chirping away.

During spring and summer, the place is swamped with beautiful birds but pheasants and other local birds can be seen through the year.

Some other birds that you may see are the Yellow Billed Magpie, Red Vented Bulbuul Bengalenisis, Blue Whistling Thrush, Oriental White Eye, Black Headed Jay, Barn Swallow, Himalayan Bulbul or the Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon.

Find a spot that you like, get your cup of tea and sit back to enjoy the true delight of the Himalayan birds. The experience is utterly calming and soothing to the senses. Sights that are so tough to otherwise find in a city.
