Great hideout for couples or small families who wish to take a break from bustling cities. Equally good for avid bird watchers who can enjoy a short stay and make the most of nature’s very own aviary!

What we love

  • The bungalow is tastefully curated with wooden furniture, lovely hand painted wall panels and small bird decorative pieces collected by the owners. Old paintings, from a time before the portable camera, of a variety of birds adorn the walls of the area.
  • The place feels like a home in the hills, a perfect retreat from the city and a sure shot way to finish that 1000 page book waiting to be read or a completing a creative project.
  • The bungalow has ample spaces for lounging - the verandahs, the two terraced lawns and the fireplace area that’s surrounded by lovely floral couches and lounging chairs. The cosy verandah is a space that’s both intimate and private cause of the fully grown trees yet open enough to enjoy a meal while gazing at the lower Shivalik ranges.
  • The house is beautifully green and like all terraced properties of the hills, there are lots of stairs and quaint narrow paths that lead up to pretty spots. Be careful while walking around, especially if you’re here with children.

What to know

  • Lunch by the stream can be organized by the caretakers. These meals are a very sweet rendition of the old style picnics with the gurgling sound of the passing stream, something that doesn’t fail to calm our senses. Food is prepared as per your tastes and preferences.
  • The caretakers are very cordial and flexible. They’ll do their very best to make your stay a comfortable one.
  • The road that leads up to this sweet haven is a ‘kaccha raasta’. The last mile is rather bumpy and we’d advise you request for a pick up and be driven by drivers who live here and are accustomed to the hills. If however you’re comfortable driving in the hills, go ahead and do it yourself! What’s life without a little bit of adventure!
  • Spaces that don’t get enough sunlight can get musty. If you feel so, just let the caretakers know and they’ll immedaitely burn camphor/ incense or air out the area.
  • Phone connectivity can be patchy at times but then that’s probably a blessing disguise when on a vacation! Internet in the house isn’t so great, we’d recommend carrying your own data card.

Bird Watching in Uttarakhand

This place is a paradise for bird watchers! Step just outside your cottage and you’ll see them or hear them chirping away.

During spring and summer, the place is swamped with beautiful birds but pheasants and other local birds can be seen through the year.

Some other birds that you may see are the Yellow Billed Magpie, Red Vented Bulbuul Bengalenisis, Blue Whistling Thrush, Oriental White Eye, Black Headed Jay, Barn Swallow, Himalayan Bulbul or the Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon.

Find a spot that you like, get your cup of tea and sit back to enjoy the true delight of the Himalayan birds. The experience is utterly calming and soothing to the senses. Sights that are so tough to otherwise find in a city.

Dehradun Village Walk

The caretakers would be more than happy to take you for a hike across the village where you can enjoy conversations and chai with the local population.

A lot of these people who live in Upper Dehradun earn their livelihood through organizations and individual entrepreneurs that educate employ and empower them. The Purukul Stree Shakti Samiti being one of the many that thrive in these foothills.

One can always walk in and see their various setups, schools, the quilting process and the wonderful shop where they retail lovely handmade products.

The village walks are a great way to experience the local culture and feel the warm and hospitality of the local people.
