This place is a paradise for bird watchers! Step just outside your cottage and you’ll see them or hear them chirping away.
During spring and summer, the place is swamped with beautiful birds but pheasants and other local birds can be seen through the year.
Some other birds that you may see are the Yellow Billed Magpie, Red Vented Bulbuul Bengalenisis, Blue Whistling Thrush, Oriental White Eye, Black Headed Jay, Barn Swallow, Himalayan Bulbul or the Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon.
Find a spot that you like, get your cup of tea and sit back to enjoy the true delight of the Himalayan birds. The experience is utterly calming and soothing to the senses. Sights that are so tough to otherwise find in a city.
Uttarakhand is also known as Devbhoomi or the Land of the Gods. The region is surrounded with beautiful ancient temples that are architectural marvels and full of age old legends and stories. You’ll love the scenic walks to the temples! While Chitai Bell Temple and Kasar Devi are close by, do make a trip to Jageshwar and Katarmal Sun Temple too if possible.
A few years ago, two women met by chance and created a Women Weavers social enterprise called Panchachuli in the region of Kumaon, Uttarakhand. The co-operative is owned and managed by the women and employs over 700 people across 32 villages in this remote and beautiful Himalayan region.
The ladies hand spin, weave, knit and embroider high quality fabrics, shawls, accessories, stoles and scarves using NZ lamb wood, Mongolian cashmere, local sheep wool, oak silk and Himalayan nettle fibres. Do stop by at the shop and buy a pure pashmina from the land of snow.
Off late this group of women is also fully engaged with training another 300 women of the region who are widowed due to the flood disasters that took place in 2013. For more details click here
Take a walk through the hills, forests and orchards. Beautiful agrarian scenes of rice terraces, wheat fields, and small villages with the smell of cooking dinner and the happy shouts of playing children greet your senses. Wildlife abounds amidst the luscious green pine and oak hillsides and throughout the valleys of the estate.
