A perfect getaway for those looking to be in a luxurious setting while being close to nature in the hills. We highly recommend this resort to couples or a small group of friends/ family looking to getaway from the city. You’ll never believe a place like this could exist!

What we love

  • The estate is nestled in the lap of Himalayas in a location that’s both astounding and breathtaking! Imagine waking up to magnificent views of higher Himalayan peaks reflecting the first rays of the sun.
  • Each of the cottages is built in stone and has large glass bay windows that provide uninterrupted views of the mountains and the region beyond. Each cottage also has a charming sitting area within the cottage that comes with a fireplace to keep you warm on those cold chilly nights as well as a little patio right outside. The key to your room too is a piece of art - an old fashioned bell that chimes with the wind!
  • If you sit absolutely still, chances are you will see pheasants hanging around right outside your room in the morning and evenings. You’ll also have other frequent visitors such as the minivets, thrushes and bulbuls for company at the resort!
  • We loved the hospitality that was extended by the ever smiling staff! The resort employs locals from the region and the warmth and love with which they serve you is incredible!
  • The resort has a new state of the art Ayurveda facility where one can indulge in therapeutic Ayurvedic sessions rejuvenating the mind, body and soul under the guidance of Ayurveda physicians.

What to know

  • You can discuss your dinner menu with the chef and he will be more than happy to prepare something as per your tastes and preferences. A local Kumaoni non-alcoholic drink made from the flowers of the Rhododendron tree is something that you should certainly try if you have a sweet tooth!
  • There are leopards in the forest around the property. If you’re lucky, you could spot one too during your stay here! It may be a little tough though given that leopards are shy animals and mostly venture out in the night when you’re nicely tucked into bed. You could also spot porcupines, jackals and foxes here!
  • Make sure you carry a good pair of walking shoes to explore the area around the resort.
  • Free access to wifi is available at the reception area.
  • Alcohol and other intoxicants are not served or permitted on the premises. The food served will be vegetarian only.

The experience will allow you to peek into the lives of the local and see the daily routine of Kumaoni villagers. The gorgeousness of the picturesque villages that are set along terraced fields, waterfalls and pine forests will really take your breath away!

To take the experience to the next level, stay in a village house where you can go beyond the formal courtesies and feel the warmth of their love and hospitality. The houses, though basic, are clean and comfortable and come with western toilets. The houses have been made using stone, wood and slate to keep you warm in the winters and cool in the summers. Local Shopping - Panchachuli Weavers

A few years ago, two women met by chance and created a Women Weavers social enterprise called Panchachuli in the region of Kumaon, Uttarakhand. The co-operative is owned and managed by the women and employs over 700 people across 32 villages in this remote and beautiful Himalayan region.

The ladies hand spin, weave, knit and embroider high quality fabrics, shawls, accessories, stoles and scarves using NZ lamb wood, Mongolian cashmere, local sheep wool, oak silk and Himalayan nettle fibres. Do stop by at the shop and buy a pure pashmina from the land of snow.

Off late this group of women is also fully engaged with training another 300 women of the region who are widowed due to the flood disasters that took place in 2013. For more details click here

Bird Watching in Uttarakhand

This place is a paradise for bird watchers! Step just outside your cottage and you’ll see them or hear them chirping away.

During spring and summer, the place is swamped with beautiful birds but pheasants and other local birds can be seen through the year.

Some other birds that you may see are the Yellow Billed Magpie, Red Vented Bulbuul Bengalenisis, Blue Whistling Thrush, Oriental White Eye, Black Headed Jay, Barn Swallow, Himalayan Bulbul or the Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon.

Find a spot that you like, get your cup of tea and sit back to enjoy the true delight of the Himalayan birds. The experience is utterly calming and soothing to the senses. Sights that are so tough to otherwise find in a city.
