What we love

  • Perched high up on the hills with jaw dropping views of the the lake, tea estates and mountains, snugly set between national forest reserves within the Nilgiris, is this colonial plantation estate that dates back to the 19th century. The current owners set this up as a retreat for nature enthusiasts in the early 1990s.
  • The abodes here are cottage styled bedrooms that offer splendid views of the surrounding hills and tea estates, while a select few offer a view of the lake as well. The bedrooms, furnished with period furniture, come with cosy fireplaces, in-room sitting areas, large windows and verandahs that allow plenty of sunshine and light to stream right in.
  • The meals here are a gastronomic delight - a complete surprise given the remote location! The food served is remarkably fresh and prepared using exotic herbs and vegetables all produced within the estates’ garden or sourced from local vendors. The flavours are unique in ways more than one and have been inspired by the indigenous tribal cuisine and fused in well with modern tastes. A foodie or not, the meals here will definitely be a highlight of your experience! Over weekends, special barbecues are arranged where you can feast on grilled meats with a bonfire to keep you warm up in the hills along with great company and good music!
  • During one of your treks around, you could visit the tribal villages of the Todas and peek into their way of life. People from this tribe are primarily cattle herders but some also indulge in cultivating and collecting honey from the wild bees found only among the high cliffs!

What to know

  • A stay here rewards one with a chance to wade through the tea plantations on the gentle slopes of the hills to learn all about tea - from how its grown to how it lands up in your cup! This is oft followed up with an engaging tea tasting session where you can sample the exotic hand rolled black, green and white tea, and possibly buy some for family back home as well.
  • Go fishing at the nearby lake where a trout hatchery has been set up. You can rent fishing rods and other equipment here and fish away a few hours! The estate also arranges guided fishing expeditions where you’ll be taken to secret fishing spots, all equipment provided, transport arranged and a picnic lunch packed!
  • The delicious food often leads the guests to the kitchen wanting to know more about how certain dishes were prepared. The estate is happy to share their cooking secrets over a workshops where you can learn all about the traditional cuisine. Those with a deeper passion for farming can participate in the organic farming workshop as well and perhaps get inspired to set up his/ her own little garden back home!
  • Some of the other activities that you can delve in include yoga sessions, mountain bike riding and star gazing, just to name a few!
  • The estate is closed to guests from June to August due to the monsoons.
