This resort is perfect for travellers in search for a luxurious resort while at Madurai. History buffs will enjoy the rich past of the resort. The perfect choice for couples, families and even groups who enjoy a beautiful setting!

What we love

  • In the midst of the temple city of Madurai is this gorgeous oasis that dates back more than 100 years, having changed form and owners a few times over. Just before the place was turned into a resort, it was a British club where officers would often swing by in the evening for a drink. It had been designed by the famous Geoffrey Bawa and then restored by his associate to its present glory. Modern elements were infused while much of the historical architectural design and style was carefully retained.
  • Choose between the simple yet elegantly designed deluxe rooms if you’re on a budget, and if not, close your eyes and opt for the lavish luxury villas that come with a personal courtyard shaded by frangipani trees and the best of all, a private plunge pool!
  • The swimming pool defies all conventional designs - it is a unique pool that’s been modelled after a traditional temple step-well! After sauntering through the temples, it’s a great place to unwind at with a drink of your choice.

What to know

  • The main restaurant is a great place to sample traditional South Indian dishes prepared using local produce. If you can handle spices, we highly recommend sampling some of the Chettinad dishes. International fares are available should you not wish to experiment or would like the familiar staples.
  • From aroma therapy massages to sea-salt treatments - the spa area is a fantastic place to relax and unwind after a day out in the city.
  • If you’re feeling lazy to walk to your villa or room, just let the staff know and you’ll be ferried in a battery operated golf cart! The resort also has facilities set up for badminton and table tennis, and there’s also a host of interesting traditional activities that you can indulge in - from learning how to make a garland of flowers to learning how to drape a saree!
