This villa is perfect for couples or a group of friends/ family looking for a luxurious home away from home in the heart of Galle Fort.

What we love

  • This Dutch residence, dating back to the 18th century, was beautifully restored a few years ago, while retaining it’s original structure of high wooden ceilings, grand living spaces and wrap around internal balconies, giving this mansion the perfect make over with subtle touches of modernity.
  • Each of the four ensuite wooden floored bedrooms, on the first level of the mansion, come with carefully selected hand crafted furniture, that are accentuated beautifully with Oriental rugs and vivid paintings that adorn the floors and walls of the rooms. Clever architectural twists allow the greens to peak in from the windows of the rooms on one side while opening up to the internal balcony on the other.
  • Enjoy the luxury of a private butler at your service who not only stirs up delicious local and western dishes but also offers a cooking demonstration allowing you to add a dish or two to your culinary abilities!
  • It’s always great to be welcomed by and under the hospitality of a team of smiling and helpful staff. A stay here ensured just that making us feel at home.

What to know

  • Eclectic boutiques, charming restaurants and lively cafes are at a stone’s throw away from the mansion. Roll out of bed, take a few steps and find yourself in some of the hippest places Fort Galle has to offer.
  • The mansion has a lovely garden area and a roof top terrace where one can lounge around and soak in tropical sun. Afternoon siesta need not be in the room but in a space where you can be one with nature.
  • The villa comes with 4 bedrooms - a master, a queen bedroom, a twin and a room with 4 bunk beds (strictly for children only). It can accommodate a total of upto 6 adults and upto 4 children comfortably in the villa. Depending on the size of your group, we can recommend the appropriate combination.
  • Wifi while available in the bedrooms is most effective in the lounge area. The connectivity in the rooms can be slow and patchy at times.
  • If you’d like to get a relaxing massage, the manager at the villa will be happy to recommend a few options within walking distance from the villa.

Stilt Fishermen

In the past, to battle crowded fishing spots, fishermen affixed sticks in coral reefs right on the water during dawn and dusk to get their catch of the day while balancing themselves delicately on right angled offshoots known as ‘petta’. Many of these fishermen pose for the camera between Welligama and Unawatuna on the coastal strip and earn a better living than by just fishing!

Mirissa Dolphin & Whale Watching

Regardless of which part of the Western coastal strip you’re staying at, we’d highly recommend an excursion to Mirissa to go dolphin and whale watching! The excursions start in the early hours of the day where you join a group of people and head out deep into the sea. On the way, while you soak in the vastness of the sea, trained guides will help you spot the different types of playful dolphins that spy hop and leap out of the water to take stock of their surroundings!

Whales, fewer in number and deeper in the sea, are tougher to spot. But in the company of those who make these trips into the sea everyday, you’re bound to spot one! Watch out for the whale’s spout that appears like a fountain of water, a signal to keep the camera’s ready and eyes wide open! Book with Mirissa Water Sports or Raja & the Whales.
