GREAT FOR

Couples who’d like to stay in a boutique hotel that reeks of the past, and all things heritage, while being in the heart of Galle Fort, should blindly opt for this property!

What we love

  • During the colonial era in the 17th century, this place was a spice storage space of a Dutch merchant. A few years ago, a British duo took over the property and beautifully restored and converted it into a small and charming boutique hotel with 4 rooms. Be welcomed by gracious hosts and if you’re lucky, a cat who’ll show you around!
  • The semi open courtyard restaurant is the soul of the property. With a cosy tropical set up with benches, umbrellas and potted herb plants, bare brick walls with eclectic paintings that hang in the most interesting fashion, and with slanting louvre wooden roof, dining here at any time in the day is an experience out of the ordinary. The restaurant comes alive especially during dinner time when not only in-house guests but also outsiders decide to have a relaxed meal here under the warm ambiance of fairy lights and trendy musical tunes.
  • Decorated with fresh flowers, each of the four bedrooms has been elegantly furnished with hand-made four paster beds. Learn a thing or two while browsing through the books on the fort placed in your room.

What to know

  • Sample a variety of Western dishes made with an interesting hint of Asian flavours. Order a fresh juice to go with it or your favourite alcoholic beverage if that’s what you’d prefer! The food will be fresh, service attentive while being non-intrusive and the ambiance just perfect for a vacation!
  • At the entrance, pause for a moment to observe the vivid paintings on display by local artists and antique collectibles. Here, you’ll also find pamphlets of some of the hip things that are happening in the fort area in the weeks to come. Go through them and choose something that piques your interest.
  • The turquoise rooms are the smaller ones located on the ground level while the library and master bedrooms, located on the first level, are larger and come with a cosy sitting area within the room.
  • This boutique hotel is for adults only. If you’re traveling with children, you’ll need to give this property a miss.
