This beach house is perfect for 2 couples or a small family of 4 to 5 people who love the sea and are looking for a space for rejuvenation, complete relaxation and oodles of tranquility.

What we love

  • The stunningly gorgeous and chic beach house, designed by an award winning local architect, is set on a pristine white beach whose virginity is only broken by the shy sea turtles who surface to lay an egg or two before swimming their way back into the Indian Ocean.
  • Walk your way in through the banana and palm fringed cobbled path into the beach house that immediately exudes a sense of serenity. We loved the lounge area, a space that’s beautifully balanced with antique furniture and interesting wall hangings, from where you can watch the garden merge into the beach and the sea. A place where conversations and moments are only punctuated by the ramblings of the azure waters and visits by the exotic birds.
  • A highlight of your stay here will be the exceptionally scrumptious food that’s prepared by the resident chef with a whole lot of love! Just let him know of your preferences and allow his magical fingers to prepare mouth-watering dishes prepared to perfection! You absolutely must try his signature prawn curry dish or the ‘fish ambul thiyal’ - a dry fish based dish cooked with a blend of spices.
  • Both the bedrooms have been furnished with four posted beds from where you can soak in the beauty of the ocean, beach and garden all at once! After a hectic day on the beach, don’t be surprised to find a beautiful arrangement of flowers in the room awaiting your return. Just the kind of vacation we all need, right?

What to know

  • The majestic infinity pool lined with coconut trees is the perfect place to relax all day long. Enjoy the splendid views of the beach and ocean beyond or relax on the lounger while a trained masseuse straightens out those knotted nerves. Play board games with the children, go bird watching, indulge in yoga sessions or best of all, go on long walks on the beach.
  • If you’d a break from the quiet relaxing vacation, the staff can easily arrange for activities such as surfing, scuba diving, whale watching, escorted bicycle rides into the countryside, or excursions to Galle fort as well for those who’d like to peak into a bit of the past or getting a retail fix.
  • The beach house comes with 2 master bedrooms but there’s also a small room that’s great for a single person or the kids making it perfect for 4 to 5 people.
  • The beach house will feel like a home away from home with stellar staff who treat you like family! While the chef works up his magic, the houseman caters to your every other need while sometimes stirring up a delicious strawberry milkshake. The night watchman will be your personal bodyguard and the gardener will help dispel the darkness around the different varieties of tropical trees.

Stilt Fishermen

In the past, to battle crowded fishing spots, fishermen affixed sticks in coral reefs right on the water during dawn and dusk to get their catch of the day while balancing themselves delicately on right angled offshoots known as ‘petta’. Many of these fishermen pose for the camera between Welligama and Unawatuna on the coastal strip and earn a better living than by just fishing!

Mirissa Dolphin & Whale Watching

Regardless of which part of the Western coastal strip you’re staying at, we’d highly recommend an excursion to Mirissa to go dolphin and whale watching! The excursions start in the early hours of the day where you join a group of people and head out deep into the sea. On the way, while you soak in the vastness of the sea, trained guides will help you spot the different types of playful dolphins that spy hop and leap out of the water to take stock of their surroundings!

Whales, fewer in number and deeper in the sea, are tougher to spot. But in the company of those who make these trips into the sea everyday, you’re bound to spot one! Watch out for the whale’s spout that appears like a fountain of water, a signal to keep the camera’s ready and eyes wide open! Book with Mirissa Water Sports or Raja & the Whales.
