This romantic palace hotel in Udaipur is perfect for couples seeking luxury while staying in an ancient palace hotel in Udaipur. Feel like royalty when you walk around the fort, getting amazed by the magnificence of the structure.

What we love

  • Walking around the palace, a labyrinth we loved, and discovering the marvelous architectural creations in the form of meshed arches, marbled floors with inlay work, narrow stairways leading up to arched verandahs and balconies, streams of water running in the shape of a lotus, minarets and domes… the list goes on and on…
  • Each suite designed in white is palatial in concept, experience and amenities but not ostentatious to hurt your eye. Each has either a little cozy alcove, sit-out area or a balcony along with super large bathrooms to die for!
  • There’s a private dining space that has its walls covered in glass, layers of frescoes and commanding views of the Aravali. Imagine how this may look with just a single candle. We were surprised to hear that this small room was the King’s room in the past and was meant to protect him from enemies.

What to know

  • The main city of Udaipur is about 45 minutes away. The fort-palace is fairly isolated and there isn’t much to do around the area post sunset. However, through the day one can make trips to the many historical sights and famous temples that have marvelous architecture. An interesting village walk is also organized in the evening for those interested.
  • If you have difficulty walking, we recommend the rooms close to the garden. The walk to the rooms in the main palace can get a little steep and could pose to be a problem incase the elevators are not working. Note: The restaurant, lounge and the gorgeous private dining spaces are also in the main palace.
  • The main restaurant was a courtroom before the palace was converted into a luxury hotel. You can still see the jharokha, a type of overhanging enclosed balcony used in Indian architecture, that was used by the judge. Also, observe the gorgeous well preserved frescoes that adorn the walls of the restaurant
