This earthy resort in Kabini is perfect for those looking to indulge while being in the midst of nature. Great for couples and families traveling with children.

What we love

  • This beautiful resort that seems like it’s arisen from the earth itself, is the labour of love of and an ode to nature by owners who’ve spent many years on distant islands planting coffee. Thus giving birth to an earthy resort that’s skirted by water bodies on two sides and the wildlife park of Nagarhole beyond.
  • Each of the aesthetically designed and eco-friendly cottages offer delightful view of the backwaters and come with a private open air jacuzzi! The earthy exteriors embellished with local artefacts perfectly blend with the surrounding region while the modern interiors transport you to the world of comfort and luxury.
  • Go to bed at night watching an entertaining music and dance performance by the locals and then wake up to the symphony of bird songs! Within the resort itself, there are over a 100 species of birds! In the morning, if laziness doesn’t get the better of you, this hide and seek game with the wild can be fun!
  • Cycle to the little hamlets around the resort where local villagers engrossed in their daily activities of farming look up with curiosity and wonder who you are and where you’ve come from. Surrender yourself to their warm hospitality only to be overwhelmed by their generosity and simplicity - an experience that’s bound to leave a mark on your memory.

What to know

  • Relax for hours on on the hammocks in the lush green gardens, take a rejuvenating dip in the open air swimming pool canopied by tall leafy trees or just sit and watch the beautiful Kabini river flow by - experiences bound to relax you and calm all your senses.
  • Savour the finger licking good food served in the delightful thatched dining area. If you wish to take back the secret recipes of the dishes, partake in the cooking demonstration where you can meet with the chefs and learn how to prepare a new dish!
  • While on the safari, look out for not just the animals and the birds but also lend a ear to the naturalist who’d be more than glad to share stories and the way of life of the local tribal community.
  • Carry a pair of comfortable shoes, binoculars, sun-gear and earthy coloured clothes for when you go on the safari.
  • While here, you could also make a quick trip to the city of Mysore, just an hour’s drive from the resort. Get a glimpse of the erstwhile splendour when you visit the palaces of Tipu Sultan, Jagamohan, Lalitha as well as the Karanji Mansion.

Nagarhole National Park

Safari Timings - Morning 6 am to 9:30 am and afternoon, 3 pm to 7 pm

Nagarhole National Park, a tiger reserve in Karnataka, was the hunting grounds of the former rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore. The park derives its name from naga, which means snakes and hole, which means streams. The park with its rich forests consisting of rosewood, teak, sandalwood and silver oak trees, meandering brooks and streams, waterfalls and hills, is the home to the Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, Indian bison, jackals, grey mongoose and the spotted deer.

With over 300 species of birds, the park is a bird watchers’ paradise. Pull out your binoculars on the game drive and let the experienced naturalist demystify the bird calls. Look out for the critically endangered Oriental White-Backed Vulture and the nearly threatened darters and the oriental white ibis.

During your drive, you may also chance upon the Jenu Kurubas, the local tribals that still live in the forest. They’re traditional food gatherers and honey collectors - the term ‘Jenu’ means ‘honey’ while ‘kuruba’ means ‘shepherd’. The government has been trying for a while to relocate them but this has been difficult given their strong attachment and love for the forests.

Bylakuppe - Little Tibet in India

Nestled amongst the lush green rice paddies of South India sits the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe, the largest Tibetan settlement outside of Tibet.

The Golden Temple, located within the Namdroling Monastery, will take your breath away. Take off your shoes and walk up the steps into this ornate temple to stand stunned in the beauty of its three gargantuan statues of Buddha, their gold and copper-plated benevolent smiles presiding over the high-ceilinged room. The temple itself is a powerful testament of devotion, every inch adorned with detailed murals and carvings. There is an energy here that will draw you to linger, perhaps sitting on one of the blue cushions offered on the expanse of floor, inviting you to spend some time in meditation or contemplation.
