What we love

  • This regal cottage set amidst acres of coffee plantations reeks of heritage charm. Some of the coffee plantations have given way to other spices such as pepper, cardamom and vanilla. Arrive here to awaken all your senses and breathe in the invigorating air laden with the aroma of the spices and the scent of freshly grounded coffee!
  • This charming colonial cottage is not only the perfect place to explore the verdant valleys, picturesque hills and tranquil vistas of the coffee estates but also the place where one can lead the exotic life of a colonial planter! While here, you can go through the plantations in a jeep or take a bean to cup plantation tour to garner a better understanding of your favourite beverage.
  • There are few places where one can find such philharmonic fusion of colonial old world charm and modern luxurious offerings in such an exclusive and serene setting. As you walk along the wood panelled corridors, stories from back in the day unfold through pictures and the unique artefacts that decorate the spaces.
  • Every room has been designed rather elegantly with four poster beds, lavish wooden flooring and a beautiful cosy fireplace! The bathrooms are lavish and some even come with a bath tub. It doesn’t stop here, you also get to enjoy the service of a personal butler!

What to know

  • The cottage offers a selection of delectable dishes across a few cuisines stirred up by chef who is christened as a culinary wizard. We’d highly recommend the local Coorgi cuisine that’s bound to tingle your taste buds and elevate your senses. The chef concocts perfect renditions of local specialities, with the pride of the cottage being the Pandi pork curry, an essential Coorgi delight for all meat lovers served with Kadumbuttu or rice dumplings. Vegetarians fret not, you’ll be enticed with other house specialities such as the Bembala curry, an exotic dish made with local bamboo shoots and spices.
  • While here, play a round of gold at the 9 hole golf course or break a sweat with a game of badminton or table tennis or bring out the child within you by playing the different board games.
  • WiFi is available within the cottage should you wish to check quick work mails or browse to learn more about the area.
  • The cottage has 5 colonial bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a regal living area, a dining area and lovely verandah spaces where you can have a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Really, the perfect place for a relaxed family vacation.

Nagarhole National Park

Safari Timings - Morning 6 am to 9:30 am and afternoon, 3 pm to 7 pm

Nagarhole National Park, a tiger reserve in Karnataka, was the hunting grounds of the former rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore. The park derives its name from naga, which means snakes and hole, which means streams. The park with its rich forests consisting of rosewood, teak, sandalwood and silver oak trees, meandering brooks and streams, waterfalls and hills, is the home to the Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, Indian bison, jackals, grey mongoose and the spotted deer.

With over 300 species of birds, the park is a bird watchers’ paradise. Pull out your binoculars on the game drive and let the experienced naturalist demystify the bird calls. Look out for the critically endangered Oriental White-Backed Vulture and the nearly threatened darters and the oriental white ibis.

During your drive, you may also chance upon the Jenu Kurubas, the local tribals that still live in the forest. They’re traditional food gatherers and honey collectors - the term ‘Jenu’ means ‘honey’ while ‘kuruba’ means ‘shepherd’. The government has been trying for a while to relocate them but this has been difficult given their strong attachment and love for the forests.

Bylakuppe - Little Tibet in India

Nestled amongst the lush green rice paddies of South India sits the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe, the largest Tibetan settlement outside of Tibet.

The Golden Temple, located within the Namdroling Monastery, will take your breath away. Take off your shoes and walk up the steps into this ornate temple to stand stunned in the beauty of its three gargantuan statues of Buddha, their gold and copper-plated benevolent smiles presiding over the high-ceilinged room. The temple itself is a powerful testament of devotion, every inch adorned with detailed murals and carvings. There is an energy here that will draw you to linger, perhaps sitting on one of the blue cushions offered on the expanse of floor, inviting you to spend some time in meditation or contemplation.
