GREAT FOR

This haven of peace and tranquility is the perfect vacation spot for a small group of friends and family looking to spend their holiday in the coastal side of Sri Lanka. With a stellar management team at your service, get ready to surrender to the serenity and beauty of nature that’s bound to put you in a complete state of relaxation and rejuvenation. Great for a group of 6 to 8 people.

What we love

  • This three bedroom elevated villa is beautifully cocooned under the shade of swaying coconut palms, fruit trees, banana plantations and verdant gardens, just off the Southern coastal strip of Sri Lanka. Step afoot on the villa’s balmy grounds and feel the sea-breeze from the distance brush against your face while gently ruffling your hair.
  • The tropical decadence of the region merges seamlessly with the villa whose exterior facade has been built as per traditional architectural style with red tiled roofing and wooded interlocking system, while the interiors are refreshingly contemporary with a chic style. Antique furniture, old chests and figurines from the Hindu epic, find their way amidst the soothing and earthy design rolled out in the villa.
  • Enter your night’s haven of peace through antiquated carved doors into a world of your own. Each of the grand suites, a state of the art luxurious paradise in-itself, comes with artistically decorated bedrooms, wooden verandah and sit out areas and lush green private gardens where you’ll also find an open air bathtub, cosy for two! The indulgence extends onto the bathroom as well where you’ll find his and her basins and rain showers.

What to know

  • For your share of gastronomic delight, relish scrumptious Sri Lankan preparations - from egg hoppers with sambal, also known as apa, to a variety of rice and coastal curry preparations. For a quick snack, sample kottu roti, a preparation where flat bread is chopped and fried and mixed with a number of ingredients - the local go to dish of the Sri Lankans! While breakfast is included in the tariff, lunch and dinner is charged on cost.
  • We truly enjoyed lounging about at all of the many open pavilions and verandahs of the villa while the birds sung their song. And a cathartic dip in the shimmering infinity pool, overlooking the canopy of riverine foliage, was just what the body and soul needed for a rejuvenating vacation in the tropics!
  • The picture perfect sandy beaches of Mirissa, still relatively untouched by the swarm of tourists, are just about 10 to 15 minutes away from the villa. Book an excursion to go into deep sea for dolphin and whale watching, or enjoy the tropical sunshine on one of the many beach beds after snorkelling in the shallow waters. For those passionate about surfing or learning it, head towards the bay of Weligama, where you’ll also find fishermen out on their stilts, with marked locations, catching their prey for the day!

Stilt Fishermen

In the past, to battle crowded fishing spots, fishermen affixed sticks in coral reefs right on the water during dawn and dusk to get their catch of the day while balancing themselves delicately on right angled offshoots known as ‘petta’. Many of these fishermen pose for the camera between Welligama and Unawatuna on the coastal strip and earn a better living than by just fishing!

Mirissa Dolphin & Whale Watching

Regardless of which part of the Western coastal strip you’re staying at, we’d highly recommend an excursion to Mirissa to go dolphin and whale watching! The excursions start in the early hours of the day where you join a group of people and head out deep into the sea. On the way, while you soak in the vastness of the sea, trained guides will help you spot the different types of playful dolphins that spy hop and leap out of the water to take stock of their surroundings!

Whales, fewer in number and deeper in the sea, are tougher to spot. But in the company of those who make these trips into the sea everyday, you’re bound to spot one! Watch out for the whale’s spout that appears like a fountain of water, a signal to keep the camera’s ready and eyes wide open! Book with Mirissa Water Sports or Raja & the Whales.
