GREAT FOR

A small family of 6 or 3 couples looking for a relaxed vacation by the sea. Perfect for those who’d like to savour local dishes and enjoy beachside pleasures.

What we love

  • Set on a cliff top by the rocky Southern coastline of Sri Lanka, rests an intimate sea-side rustic country home, landscaped across levels, sprinkled with towering coconut trees that sway to the tunes of the ocean.
  • The bedrooms, under the vaulted ceiling, come with four posted beds, checkered marble floors and other dark polished furniture, recreating the feeling of a cosy family home. The master bedroom opens up onto the main front verandah and garden while the other two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and the other with twin beds, open up to the main living room, pond and gardens at the back.
  • Stroll around bare-feet on the verdant lawns of the house watching the sea and the horizon in the distance. Let your eyes follow the little boats that tread cautiously on the waters or the free spirited birds that glide through the skies. Step a level below and sink into the emerald waters of the infinity pool, or walk another level down into the yoga cabana for a deeper connect with your conscious self, or yet another level below onto the sandy beachfront.

What to know

  • Devour a fabulous spread of local Sri Lankan preparations and familiar Western dishes cooked to perfection and served in the garden front dining area. The house favourites - crab curry, prawn curry and fish dishes - are an absolute must! The chef will win your heart with the home made cakes and desserts. If you’d like to end your meal with a local flavour, make a request for the watalappam pudding, made from coconut milk, eggs, a variety of spices and jaggery, and usually prepared during festival and other celebrations in the country.
  • The ensuite bathrooms, though beautiful and well equipped, do not have a formal door. Though each of the spaces within the bathrooms have been defined well ensuring privacy and good ventilation, we feel, couples will be the most comfortable sharing a room.
  • You’ll love the attentive and friendly hospitality that’s extended by the English speaking staff here! All your needs are just a thought away - from dishes prepared as per your tastes and preferences to recommendations on what to do nearby.

1

Hummanya Blowhole

Through the crack in the rock, ocean water gushes in and passes through a tiny hole, blowing out in style like a marvellous natural water fountain! This is a blowhole, often appearing with a magical whoosh sound that can be heard few miles away from the site, especially during the monsoons. Great for those who enjoy the little natural wonders.

Mirissa Dolphin & Whale Watching

Regardless of which part of the Western coastal strip you’re staying at, we’d highly recommend an excursion to Mirissa to go dolphin and whale watching! The excursions start in the early hours of the day where you join a group of people and head out deep into the sea. On the way, while you soak in the vastness of the sea, trained guides will help you spot the different types of playful dolphins that spy hop and leap out of the water to take stock of their surroundings!

Whales, fewer in number and deeper in the sea, are tougher to spot. But in the company of those who make these trips into the sea everyday, you’re bound to spot one! Watch out for the whale’s spout that appears like a fountain of water, a signal to keep the camera’s ready and eyes wide open! Book with Mirissa Water Sports or Raja & the Whales.

Galle Fort & Lighthouse

The quaint historical town of Galle is a delightful example of Portuguese and Dutch architecture that seamlessly blends in with native traditions. A fortified city that bravely bounced back after the 2004 tsunami, the Galle city is full of wonders and surprises if you’ve got a quick eye and are ready to explore. There’s nothing like spending a day strolling along the decadent ramparts or the ancient cobbled paths with fascinating names such as the ” Moorse Kramerstraat” or the Pedlar Street while peaking into the magnificent Dutch Reformed Church.

Take a selfie with the oldest breadfruit tree in Galle and or have an engaging conversation with many a writers and artists who take a seat at their favourite watering holes in and around the fort area. Call it day with a visit to the Galle lighthouse soaking in the panoramic views.
