GREAT FOR

Just about anyone at all! There is not a soul who will not connect or fall in love with the place. It’s just not possible! And once here, you will not want to leave :)

What we love

  • This hideaways on the backwaters of Kerala is a haven that can only be reached by water. You are welcomed on a boat landing reception with a refreshing drink of coconut water, and a line of smiling faces. What a way to commence the vacation of a lifetime!
  • The palm-fringed pool villas, with private plunges overlooking the endless paddy fields. Where else will you find such paradise?!
  • Meeting inhabitants such as the Southern Birdwing butterfly (India’s largest butterfly with a wingspan of 30cm), the Grass Jewel butterfly, the Vechur cow (the world’s smallest) and over 90 species of birds. The nature on show here is truly incredible.

What to know

  • The only way to reach other parts of Kumarakom is by taking the boat, then hiring a cab or auto-rickshaw.
  • Villas are constructed in Kerala’s traditional ‘thachushastra’ method (old rules and regulations of carpentry). Each villa vaunts open air bathrooms and private sit-outs facing either the backwaters or the bird sanctuary.

Cruising on the backwaters

Cruise on the secluded backwaters in houseboats converted from rice boats. Take a glimpse into the lives of the locals - children splashing and swimming in the waters, women washing clothes, men sitting on the banks of the canals and fishing. The experience is enchanting and extremely peaceful to say the very least.

Kalaripayattu

Kalaripayattu is an Indian martial art from the Southern state of Kerala. It also happens to be one of the oldest fighting systems in existence with strikes, kicks, grappling, preset forms, weaponry and healing methods. This is how the Kerala masseuse get their strength.

Wake up early in the morning to watch this beautiful art form being practiced by both men and women.

Dance Performance

Enjoy Bharata Natyam, a classical Indian dance that originated in South India almost 2000 years ago. It is considered to be a fire dance and the movements will resemble that of a dancing flame.

You may also witness the performer dance on a brass plate by keeping her/his feet on the edges. That is some serious skill! We wonder how much pain the dancer might have endured.
