GREAT FOR

Adventure seekers, nature lovers, peace hunters and wildlife explorers will find this place enchanting! A great place for a group of friends, family, couples or even a solo traveller.

What we love

  • Entering the forests on the 4 wheel drive and experiencing Goa on the hills while facing the valley. The experience is nothing short of being magical. The wooden cottages have a basic rustic feel. The valley facing cottages have hair- raising romantic balconies. Only the chirping of birds, sounds of the insect, calls of other creatures will disturb you.
  • The infinity pool at the edge of the cliff is spectacular. The panoramic view of Goa from the pool will astound you!
  • The communal buffet style meals at Wildernest will leave you licking your fingers. Pickles of different flavours, salad, local cuisine of the Western Ghat and the various kinds of pastes! We promise, just the food alone could make you want to come back here.
  • Take a peek at the world of wildlife during the multiple treks and trails organized at Wildernest. You will be amazed at how much you can learn and how fascinating each creature really is!

What to know

  • It is about 2 hours away from the Goa that you’ve heard of with beautiful beaches, restaurants and the wild parties.
  • Wildernest is an eco resort built on high altitude on a tough terrain amidst the jungle without disturbing the natural habitants in the region. Do not freak out if you see some insects, creatures or other characters from the animal kingdom.
  • Phone and internet connectivity are very weak in some parts. It could be a little tough to make or receive calls. Allow yourself to be disconnected while there.
  • The area is also a great place for cycling. Take a cycle from them and explore the region!

Walks, Trails & Treks

Trek to the tristate boundaries of Goa-Karnataka-Maharashtra to get a panoramic view of the Chorla Ghats & the Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary. Or opt for the 45 min trek to the waterfall. The experience is mind blowing for those who’d like to see the virgin forests of the Sahyadris. The trek culminates near a perennial waterfall that is enveloped in thick dense forests.

Organic Farms

Travel to an organic farm and witness how the farm functions. Great way to learn how you can decrease your consumption of pesticides. You not only help yourself but also the environment. The drive to the farm is a beautiful experience through mixed moist semi-evergreen forests that abound in birdlife. A lucky few may encounter the Malabar Giant squirrel too!

Bird Watching

The forests of the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary are home to some of the most beautiful and endemic birds of the Indian subcontinent as well as the Western Ghats. Here’s a little about two of the birds:

Malabar Whistling Thrush - A solitary bird, the Malabar Whistling Thrush is an Indian endemic and is also known as the Whistling Schoolboy for its melodious birdsong. Chorla Ghats is one of the best places to see this avian wonder and hear its distinct notes fill the morning air everyday.

Malabar Grey Hornbill - An endemic species of Hornbill, restricted to the Western Ghats, is known for its unique breeding habits of sealing its female in a tree hollow with the young one and taking care of it till it matures.

The Indian Pitta, Loten’s sunbird, the Crimson backed sunbird, the White Cheecked Barbet are some really colourful birds that you should watch out for. Besides this, a number of threatened species such as the Long billed Vulture, the Sri Lankan Frog Mouth and the Black Shouldered kite are part of the forest.

A bird watcher or not, make sure you go on the early morning birding trails during your stay here. We highly recommend it! If you miss it, speak to the naturalist to see if another one can be organized.
